About

The Past: Our History

Since becoming an official chapter of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization, Brigham Young University’s Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (BYU-CEO) has achieved remarkable results over the years. Students throughout BYU recognize BYU-CEO as the flagship of the university’s extracurricular clubs, and have become accustomed to the high standard of events and activities put on by the organization. Dozens of successful student entrepreneurs have benefitted from BYU-CEO efforts, and past leaders of the organization have taken off to great heights, including the likes of Tyler Sharp (founder of Fashion Genome), Brian Bennett (co-founder of Meal Drop), and Josh James (co-founder of Omniture – sold to Adobe in 2009 for $1.8 billion).

The Present: Our Mission

BYU-CEO has a simple mission: to inform, inspire, and empower students to take control of their futures through entrepreneurship. We assist students in all facets of entrepreneurial ventures, including: networking, developing and testing ideas, building teams, creating and validating business models, and securing funding. We have an unrivaled alumni base of entrepreneurs that generously provides mentoring and support. BYU was recently ranked as the 2nd best college in the country for Entrepreneurship in the Princeton Review.

The Future: Our Vision

Our vision is to transcend all of the boundaries and borders on BYU’s campus – including all majors, colleges, and departments – in an effort to show that entrepreneurship is a tool to help students share the talents and the passion that they have in a way they couldn’t do otherwise. We will break down the notion that entrepreneurship is for business students only, and help any who will listen to see entrepreneurship as the key to making a living while doing what they love.

We Will:

• Continue to be seen as BYU’s flagship student organization
• Grow and sustain a membership of over 200 students in 2011-2012
• Raise $10,000 to fund BYU-CEO activities and events for the 2011-2012 school year
• Gain national recognition at the National CEO Conference in October 2011 by being qualified to win the “Best Overall Chapter” Award
• Host, execute, and improve the already successful Student Entrepreneur of the Year (SEOY) competition
• Host monthly entrepreneurial events to promote and inspire entrepreneurism on campus
• Put on two Public Relations/Marketing events each semester to build the BYU-CEO brand
• Reach out to all students from all majors across campus for each event
• Add two new special-interest entrepreneurial groups as sub-sections of BYU-CEO to build value for members and attract a diverse amount of students
